Addyson Mitchell is a senior at Coronado High School. She participates in stock shows
and is also employed part-time. Her parents are Amber Morris and Billy Mitchell.
She will attend Texas Tech University to pursue a Restaurant, Hotel and Institutional
Management (RHIM) degree and an American Sign Language (ASL) interpreting
certificate. She aspires to a career in the culinary industry.
It is not surprising that this is his belief. When you’re
out in the middle of nowhere, ten minutes from the
nearest town and 45 minutes from the nearest grocery
store, all you can see is the earth—the earth that God
so obviously created. When you tend livestock, you’re
tending God’s most innocent creations. You see God in
everything you do. And I get to see it in my Pops. He
is sweet and tender, and the most God-fearing man I
know. I am blessed to be able to live a life with him in
it, and anyone else who has met him can say the same.
who I know you are going to be. I want the best for
you in this life, and Petersburg can’t be it.” As much
as I hated it, I knew he was right.
My Pops has taught me so much about living a
big life, but he has taught me just as much about
remembering the little things and remembering
the traditions. We pray before supper. We all see
each other on holidays. We tend to our livestock
thoughtfully. Money is not king. Popularity is not
king. All the little things I learned from him.
If he were to share one piece of advice, it would be
this: follow God. Follow God wholeheartedly and
truthfully. Never back down from your faith. All else
may fail, but the Lord our God does not. In every
moment when we think we are alone, He is there
with us. Prayer and praise are the best remedy for
any situation. Remaining in prayer and continuously
praising God leads to a beautiful life.
