TEXAS TECH CENTENNIAL
where the whole family enjoys spending time—going on walks, playing in the stream,
roasting marshmallows.”
The Henrys have cultivated a lifelong love for Lubbock, citing the ease of living
here, the opportunities to be involved and continue your education, the accessibility
and availability of cultural and sporting events, and the friendly, caring West Texas
culture. They believe strongly in the importance of volunteerism and inspiring people’s
willingness to make our community the best it can be. Sandy testifies that it has been “a
joy to see that happen.”
Distinguished Alumni Alan and Sandy Henry really are remarkable. From the clinics at
TTUHSC to the eponymous Lake Alan Henry to Lubbock’s Science Spectrum, they are
legendary Lubbockites on so many levels.
Each summer, the Texas Tech Alumni Association hosts Legacy University for members of
the TTAA Legacy Club (Legacies) ages 7 to 13 and their grandparents. Legacy U is a three-
day, intergenerational summer camp on Texas Tech's campus that engages grandparents and
their aspiring Red Raider grandchildren in hands-on academic activities, while celebrating the
traditions that make Texas Tech unique.
At Legacy U, Legacies and their grandparents get a taste for college life by staying in the
residence halls and attending classes together in a chosen major. After completing the program,
Legacies “graduate” with a certificate in their chosen field. Along with activities in the classroom,
Legacy U participants enjoy engaging, spirit-filled events.
