to Costa Rica alongside Mrs. Martin to build a
house for a family there. I am glad to have been
with Mrs. Martin as we shared an impactful
experience. Having her there to talk to helped
me see how lucky we are. During that trip, I saw
Mrs. Martin as not just a calculus teacher but in a
way I never had before. The meaningful time on
that trip as well as the time I have spent with Mrs.
Martin as my small group teacher has made her
not just my teacher but also a mentor and friend.
The connection I have built with Mrs. Martin has
meant more than I could ever explain.
I am inspired to one day have the same effect
on others that Mrs. Martin has had on me. I am
inspired to show others the truths and beauties of
every step of life and to teach others to embrace
the difficult parts of being human because they
weigh so little compared to the beauties of life. I
hope to be able to walk into a room and change
someone’s day for the better just by smiling. I hope
to be an extraordinary role model for others like
Mrs. Martin has been for me.
