Class of 2023

When I first joined the band, I was concerned
about being able to read sheet music, but with
Mr. Cross’s help, I accomplished that task.
There are many occasions when students
have difficulty reading music or figuring out
how to play it. Mr. Cross will use his personal
time to go through and write note names or
instrument positions for any student who
asks. Mr. Cross ensures that his students are
comfortable while they learn but can also
come out of their comfort zones to learn $3.9 Million in Merit Scholarships
new runs or solos. This dedication to music 100% of Senior Class Accepted into College
education has allowed Mr. Cross’s students to COLLEGE ACCEPTANCES
develop a lifelong love for music.
Mr. Cross also understands when it comes
to classes outside of band. If students need
to make up a test or finish work for another
class, he is more than lenient by allowing
them time to complete these assignments.

to relax. This grandfatherly attitude shows Class of 2024
his dedication not just to the band, but also
to the students playing in the band and their National Merit Scholars
academic well-being. Mr. Cross cares about
the musical proficiency of the band, but more
than that, he loves the kids behind the horns
and loves teaching them.
Charlie Cross graduated from Monterey High
School and from Texas Tech University. While Joshua Eckert
serving in the United States Air Force, he National Merit Commended Scholar
played in the Air Force Academy Band. He
has been teaching for 40 years and loves what Rohan Felton
he does. Mr. Cross and his wife Kay have four National Merit Semi-Finalist
children, 13 grandchildren, and six great-
grandchildren with two more on the way.
He loves to watch his grandchildren’s sports Jameson Seal
and other performances and will often travel National Merit Commended Scholar
out of town to watch their games or events.
Mr. Cross has always been dedicated to his
children, whether those who are related to
him or those in his bands.
