because of the friendly environment created
by Mr Cross. An added benefit is that I have
grown to enjoy band music, particularly jazz,
which is satisfyingly challenging.

Like many band directors, Mr. Cross’s
love for music came from his own high
school band director, Doyle Gammill, who
demonstrated to students that they could
excel in the band and have fun doing it. This
attitude is present in Mr. Cross’s teaching
today and is the very reason I love being
in the All Saints High School band. His
approach aids in turning fourth graders,
who are learning sheet music notes, into
high school band students, playing five
different songs in two different bands.

Mr. Cross began his career at All Saints in
2009 with only eleven students in the band
and has grown the band program greatly
during his time here. The band now has
100 students across five bands, covering
grades 4-12. According to Mr. Cross, one of
his favorite things about teaching music is
watching children change from timid little
fourth graders into confident young adults,
both musically and as people.

Kaden Jimenez has attended All Saints Episcopal Schools since the first grade
and will graduate this May. He has participated in band since the fourth
grade but also plays varsity golf, as well as the Legends Junior Tour and
NTPGA golf leagues outside of school. He will attend Texas Tech University
Honors College and is planning to major in Business Administration. His
parents are Reyes and Angela Jimenez, and he has “two amazing siblings”:
Kingston (16) and Camille (12).
