              “Lubbock Summer Night”

                         by Katherine McLamore

After years of Yankee heartbreak, Mom chose to move our family.
A new life was the plan on the Plains and blowing sand.
From the coal mines to the prairies, we left the green for the brown.
Healing comes from all places, and we found it in this town.
On the Plains, I find forgiveness in the simple pace of it all.
Like the soldiers who’ve gone before,
there are those who catch you when you fall.

From the heroes of the Silent Wings to the way Buddy Holly would sing,
Texas holds my heart just right on a Lubbock summer night.
The people are what make it because the view is not the draw.
We found a brand-new family. God knows, I love you all!
Tumbleweeds bring clarity; now it all makes more sense to me,
When the dry wind blows just right, on a Lubbock summer night.
