day by day “in the moment”
            with eyes open to every
            opportunity. She keeps in mind
            that everything can happen so
quickly, so she is careful not to
take things for granted. “I had
a choice,” she told me. “I could
let it affect my life negatively,
or I could choose to be a better
person for her (her mother), to
live this life for her.” It wasn’t
easy, but she wanted to be the
            woman her mother wanted her
            to be.

            In spite of overcoming many
            obstacles during her lifetime,
            Mrs. Buxkemper remains
            humble. It’s easy to say
someone is a great person, or
even your role model, but when “Be kind. Don’t wait until you get older to be a good
that someone invests significantly in your life, it means person. Start being kind right now. Many things that
a great deal – even more so when it’s unexpected. She you think are important now won’t mean anything in
has helped me with personal crises. She has guided me the future. So don’t waste your time on trivial things or
through rough spots more than once. let them consume your life. It will always be important
that you are kind to people.”
I know I’m not the only person who looks up to Mrs.
Buxkemper. She has positively affected the lives of so I will continue to learn as I grow, and I will always
many people, and I’m so grateful that I am one of them. remember the people who helped me get to where I am.
I want to thank Melissa Buxkemper for her kind heart
When I asked my role model if she had some words
of wisdom to pass down to young people, she said, and remarkable soul; one doesn’t meet someone like
                                                              her every day.
