to take notes on sermons and then cross-check them
with Bible commentaries. Gradually, he realized the
life-changing truths of Christianity and became a
Christian. Later, in a Second Baptist Church retreat at
Glorieta Baptist Assembly, the leader asked attendees
to go someplace quiet to pray. Lee recalled receiving
this message from God (the only spoken divine words
he ever heard): “Quit playing games with me.” It
made a significant impression.
Lee’s daily prayers start with a request for patience,
and at day’s end, reflect gratitude for God’s
blessings. For difficult decisions, his go-to person
is Beth because she provides an honest answer. As
a professional, he’s led his financial planning team
through occasionally bewildering times, while always
adhering to the admonition, “We may not always be
the smartest, but we can be the most honest.”
He enjoyed participating in an Honor Flight in 2014,
where he especially enjoyed the camaraderie of
the flight, as well as the Korean War Memorial, the
changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown
Soldier, and the Marine Memorial. The Honor Flight
experience was a great joy to him.
Lee’s community involvement now centers around
the Second Baptist Church, where he and Beth are
deacons and leaders. He spearheaded the drive to
establish a Columbarium (a place with niches for
funeral urns), which is adjacent to the church. He’s
an active member in the Greater Southwest Lubbock
Rotary Club. Lee’s favorite subject in school was
literature, and reading is still a passion he continues
to this day. His home library contains over 1,000
volumes. His other hobbies have included studying Jane Bromley
the stock market and playing golf. He was also once
known as the family clown, a skill he’s continued to 806-438-8557
hone as his sense of humor has matured.
