boss about the change in his life. After a long
visit, the man prayed and accepted the Lord.
His question to Hank was, “What took you so
long [to come talk to me]?” This friend now
attends Mt. Pleasant and enjoys fishing for
catfish and crappie with his pastor.
The energetic 72-year-old Hankson has been a
leader of the Boys and Girls Club for 18 years. “We
had almost 700 kids attend the Texas Fishing Derby
in 2017!” He has served on the Board of 100 Black
Men of West Texas for 22 years and on the Board of
The Bridge of Lubbock for two years. “I was [even]
President of the Estacado Football Booster Club for
10 years, [even though] neither I, nor any members
of my family went to that school.”
The charismatic cook has met many celebrities,
including Evander Holyfield and Jackie Joyner, as
well as local personalities Calvin Lewis and sculptor
Eddie Dixon. Bill Bates and Brad Sexton, who are
helping with the new VA super clinic, are two of
his newest friends. “In the Kingdom of Heaven, it
is all in who (and Who) you know. God has richly
blessed me with knowing some great people in our
community. I have grown to view life differently
and... recognize when God is bringing His light into
dark situations. I am one of those stories.”
