daycare facility to serve the black community.
The door swung wide to provide safety for the
little ones. While mothers were making a living,
Essie Givens was making a difference, opening
doors.
She invested her energy and her expertise in
the United Way, Red Cross, Salvation Army, Girl Skilled Nursing, Home Care Aide,
Scouts, American Heart Association, American Physical Therapy, Occupational
Cancer Society, and the Plainview Hospital
Auxiliary. In 1988, she was named Plainview’s Therapy, Speech Therapy, Medical
Woman of the Year, the first black to be so Social Worker, Dietician, Wellness
honored. Collectively, the city of Plainview swung Programs and Honeywell
wide the door to acknowledge and celebrate the
tireless service rendered by this devoted soldier Telemonitor Program
