Lubbock Lake Landmark, located three miles north of
the museum, is an archaeological and natural history
preserve and dig site. The Landmark contains evidence
of 12,000 years of occupation by ancient peoples in
the region. Research ranges from the discovery of Ice
Age denizens of the South Plains, including the giant
American lion and delicate bird fossils, to determining
the rock quarry sources used to build pioneer
