FIRST RESPONDERS

She continues, “I remember us a K-Pa to three of my favorite people:
sitting on the floor of our living Kylynn, Karsynn, and Gunner, our three
room in Post, as he was studying grandkids.” Shanna agrees that their
for a promotion to Lieutenant. He family is “more than proud of the man
was studying so hard, trying to he is!”
         remember everything. I remember
making flash cards, and us sitting When asked, what would you like
on the floor every night for weeks, people to know about you and your
going over everything, until he had colleagues, Kyle replied, “Every Law
it memorized. He made Lieutenant. Enforcement officer is truly a servant
Then, later, he made Captain.” and has a servant’s heart, or they would not have chosen
                                                              this career.”
Kyle recalls high adrenaline during more than one high-
speed pursuit, which are, understandably, tense and Speaking of choosing a career—Kyle is part of a first
frightening. Shanna recounts, responder legacy. His great-grandfather, T. E. May, was
“He had nights as a highway the first Chief of Police in Lubbock; his son is a firefighter
patrolman, where he would in Wolfforth; and his son-in-law has just graduated from
come home and pick up our the Lubbock Police Academy. There’s no denying this
sleeping baby out of the crib family’s servant’s heart.
because he saw something Shanna ends with these thoughts, “Kyle’s love for
that night involving a child on his job and the people he supervises surpasses all
a traffic stop. He would pick understanding of why someone would do this job.
them up and rock for hours, By God’s design, he is a protector of men. That’s his
just to be with them. I can’t calling!”
                                 remember how many times
                                 he did that.”
Danger is part of the job, so Shanna appreciates that
Kyle has a habit: if he ever goes out to do anything
work-related, he will text with a “10-4 all clear” so she
knows he’s alright and will be coming home.

When asked what he likes about being on the front line,
Kyle said, “The daily action becomes addicting and is
something that can be very exciting.” That seems to be
a draw to many people as they consider a career in law
         enforcement.

Kyle adds, “My most rewarding experience is knowing
that my family is proud of the job I’ve done as a Law
Enforcement Officer, as well as a husband, a father, and
