            • We all use visual cues, years.
              even when we don’t
              realize it. Face the person
              you are speaking to and
              allow them to watch your
lips. Facial hair that covers the lips makes it
difficult for a person with a hearing deficit to
distinguish words. At a proper distance, pull
your mask down so your lips can be seen. We
have masks with a window in them for this
purpose. Come by one of our offices for a free
              mask.

            • Make sure ambient sounds are at a minimum
when conversing. Save the conversation for
when the dishwasher has completed or when
you can mute the television. Pause in the
conversation if loud sounds occur, like a car
passing by or the blare of a siren.
            • Please, please, don’t tell a person to turn up
their hearing aids or even ask them if they are
wearing them. Remember, it is even more
frustrating for the person with compromised
hearing than for the person who is trying to
              lead the conversation.
            • Many times, the person who struggles to
understand will lead a conversation to a topic
they know and can follow. Allow them that
              privilege.

We may need to do a FREE hearing screening for
you, to see if we might make other suggestions
to improve understanding. Please know, not
