Sewing has
also been
something
that my
grandmother
and I have
shared a love
for. Needles
and thread
take me back
to happy
times with
her. When I
was a little
girl, she
taught me how to embroider. I was not good in the
beginning. All the lines were off, and the stitches were
uneven. Over time though, and with her patience
and guidance, I was able to create things that I will
cherish for the rest of my life. From the front, they
are beautiful pieces of art, but the back tells a whole
different story. The back shows the hard work and
dedication, the ugly side of the piece and, in essence,
the ugly side of existence. My grandmother has
endured various trials, but she has persevered and
made the best out of everything thrown her way.
Though the back of her piece does not look the
greatest, the front is beautiful and full of all I want to
become. I love my Granna and cherish every moment
with her. I hope to become the woman she has been
throughout her life.
