When I was nine years old, I
remember my grandmother
taking my sister and me for
a treat at Starbucks or for
by Emily Moore lunch at the local Tea Room.
Every time I got in her car, I
would see gallon-Ziploc bags
filled with socks, hygiene
products, a water bottle, and
a McDonald’s gift card in her
backseat. I never knew what
they were for until, one day,
when I was riding along with
her as she ran a few errands,
she stopped and gave one
of the bags to a homeless
man standing in a parking
lot. I specifically remember
the look of joy and gratitude
on the man’s face when my
grandmother handed him
the bag. I finally understood
the purpose for the bags.
It was not just to give
needed materials to the less
fortunate, but it was to show
them the love of the Lord.
She also showed me how
to make a Sunshine Basket,
which is a yellow basket
filled with goodies and gifts
