Elroy Carson
received many

for his heroic
service in

Southwest Asia Service Medal for his service
in the Persian Gulf War, an Army Service
Ribbon, and an Army Lapel Button. He also
received the National Defense Service Medal
(NDSM) and the Army Reserve Components
Achievement Medal for his exemplary
behavior while serving. He was awarded the
Armed Forces Reserve Medal and the Army
Commendation Medal. All the awards he
received only validated what I already knew,
which was that my grandfather is a leader, a
hero. Elroy Carson, Sr. retired from the Army
in 2006 as a Colonel. Since his retirement
from the Army, he has taken time to run his
own insurance company that he built from
the ground up and has spent time with his
