“When we got to Lubbock coming home, everybody
in the whole world was there, it seemed like,” Cave
said. “That was worth the whole trip. Well, one
reason is for the Vietnam veterans, and some of the
rest of us didn’t get a welcome home service either.
But we all got it that night in Lubbock.”
Each of the roles Cave has held have encompassed
one thing – service. Serving the land, his family and
his country, he tried to pass down good values to his
family. His hard work, dedication, patience and love
have made his family what it is today.
the best. I hope I passed that on to my children
and grandchildren. The harder you work at it, the

are going to get your name on the door. Work
hard and make your own luck.”
Cave farmed for nearly 45 years before retiring.
His son and grandson chose to carry on the
family tradition and become the fourth and fifth
generations to farm. Cave was surprised by his
family with the opportunity to participate in the

“That has got to be one of the highlights of Kevin, Cindy and Jayci
my whole 82 years,” Cave said, “getting to go
up there and see museums, memorials and Justin, Maddie, Jackson and Reese
everything. The Vietnam Memorial had the
names of people on it, and every one of them that
had their name on there had given their life for
our country. It makes you think that it sure costs
a lot to be free. After seeing that, I am more proud
than ever to have served in the Army. It was the
trip of a lifetime.”
Like many other veterans, Cave did not receive 432-353-4570
a big welcome when he returned home from his
time in Korea. For him, the welcome home from We proudly support
