control, yet I have recently come to realize the payoff
of her dedication to our Scouting careers.
A couple of months ago, my brother and I each
achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank
within the Scouting organization. I credit my success
in Scouting to the persistence of both Nana and
Mama B, as they were the driving forces behind my
success. As I neared the end of my Scouting career,
attaining my Eagle Scout rank had its rough spots,
mostly due to procrastination on my part, but Nana
and Mama B stayed after me and made sure I was
making the deadlines, and for that I owe them a lot.
It is said that only 2-3% of Scouts get their Eagle
Scout rank, and because of Nana and Mama B, I am

has always been. They sacrificed so much of their
time, from carting us around from place to place,
attending all of our band concerts, and always being
there when we needed sage advice or a shoulder to
lean on. The amount of time and resources they have
poured into my brother and me have shown me the
strength of love. There we were, eight-month-old
