Dr. E. Don "Doc" Williams
The Master Storyteller

I wanted to write this article because of my deep respect and admiration for Dr. Don Williams. He
has always been a joyful influence in my life and in the lives of others. Our paths first crossed when
we were both club sponsors with Master Follies back in the 1980s. Since then, every time I see Don,
he puts a smile on my face. I have a lot of respect for his contributions to LCU.

n the history of any great institution, some figures serve
as pillars, and others serve as the very foundation upon
Iwhich those pillars rest. For Lubbock Christian University
(LCU), Dr. E. Don “Doc” Williams is that foundation. Spanning
over half a century, Williams’ career is not merely a timeline of
professional titles or academic accolades; it is a living, breathing
history of a university that grew from a fledgling junior college
into a premier regional institution of higher learning. As of early
2026, looking back at his recent honors and over five decades
of service, Williams stands as the "bridge across generations," a
man whose life has been a masterclass
in the intersection of faith, art, and the
transformative power of friendship.
The Student Who Never Truly Left
The story of "Doc" Williams begins,
not at the front of a classroom, but
in the seats of one. A native of Spur,
Texas—a small town that would
remain the heartbeat of his creative
inspiration—Williams arrived at what
was then Lubbock Christian College
(LCC) as a student in the late 1950s.
He graduated in 1962, a member of the
early generation of pioneers who helped
establish the culture of the school. After
