was able to trace his mother's
side of the family back to King
             Alfred the Great of England.
This started his writing of A
             Family Narrative a book which
             he eventually self-published.

             Being a physician limited his
time pursuing his passion of researching and writing
about philosophy. He did write a long poem, “The
Pursuit of Happiness”, published by the Plainview
Writers Guild, proclaiming romantic love as the
greatest source of happiness. In his retirement,
he has been able to devote time to his childhood
interests in the origins of life and the universe. He power. The poor man who is content with his poverty
enjoys sharing his knowledge with his family and is happier than the wealthy man who never has
friends. His research includes comparative religions, enough. Pat feels that he has led a good life.
which he has extensively studied and written about.
He is most interested in why it all started. He
is also researching and writing about the Greek
philosophers. His study of religion, philosophy,
and science did not reveal the meaning of life to
him. He concludes that the best a man can do is
to find meaning in life, which leads to the pursuit
of happiness. To Pat, this is best achieved by the
ancient Greek philosophers’ term eudaimonia – living
the good life. Aristotle explained that the eudaimon
life is a virtuous activity in accordance with reason,
                                              which may
                                              be attained
                                              through
                                              virtuous
                                              living and
                                              moderation.
                                              For Pat,
                                              happiness is
                                              primarily a
