dedication and, Linda adds, “the woman
who supported him through it all.” “We’ve
had a great life. God has always been at
the center of it – even in the hard times. I
wouldn’t trade it for anything. Gary is the NEEDS
love of my life,” Sharon says, and her tears
tell a story no book can dispute.

First off, many estate planners use the phrase
“supplemental needs trust” since such trusts
are designed to supplement and not supplant
or eliminate sources of support for people
with disabilities, such as Supplemental
Security Income (SSI) and Medicaid. Also,
most folks have only limited experience with
trusts and may misunderstand how trusts
operate in general.
In simple terms, a trustor (also known as
a settlor or grantor) and a trustee execute
an agreement for the trustee to own and
take care of property for the benefit of one
or more beneficiaries and to distribute
that property or the income from it to the
beneficiaries according to that agreement. In
a sense, a trust operates like a partnership
between the trustor (the creator) and trustee
(the manager), and it is the business of the
partnership to manage property and to
make payments to one or more beneficiaries,
