Celebrating its 125th anniversary in 2017, First
United Methodist Church has been a cornerstone
of worship in downtown Lubbock since the earliest
days of our community.
Organized in 1892 when Lubbock County was only
a year old, FUMC’s journey began with 12 members
meeting in the Lubbock County Courthouse and
has evolved to more than 1,500 members meeting in
five Sunday services every week in the “Cathedral
of the West” at 1411 Broadway. Services include
two traditional worships in the sanctuary, two
contemporary services in the Christian Life Center,
and a short service in Bowman Chapel.
FUMC’s Mission and Outreach endeavors include
efforts both locally and around the world. Ongoing
local ministries include participation in Lubbock’s
Second Helpings and Family Promise programs,
hosting the city’s annual Thanksgiving Community
Dinner, and partnerships with South Plains Food
Bank and Bayless Elementary, the latter of which
includes weekend meal bags, Kids Beach Club, and
an annual Easter egg hunt. Recent mission trips have C
been taken to New Orleans, Mexico, Honduras, and M
Guatemala. Y
The church’s mission is “to create a grace-filled CM

Our vision is that “God continues to grow in us a CY
grace-filled community by bridging our rich heritage CMY
with future generations and cultures, leading us into K

We invite you to come see why we are so passionate
