Public/Private in 2011. Kay explained that she
had been on several committees over a multi-
year period to get a state-of-the-art performing
arts center in Lubbock, and all had failed. She
really, really wanted to see this happen and took
it upon herself and The CH Foundation to lead
the way. Her effort and leadership, as well as
that of all the LEPAA Board members and staff,
has been nothing short of miraculous.
In three years, when Buddy Holly Hall
opens, Lubbock will be home to a world-
class performing arts center that will be in
partnership with the Lubbock Symphony, Ballet
Lubbock and the Lubbock Independent School
District. Because of these partnerships, it will
be like few other performing arts centers in the
world and could be the model for performing
arts undergraduate education in the future! Human Sciences honored Mrs. Sanford with

Kay Sanford, a modest woman, shies
away from publicity, and will probably
be embarrassed by these comments. She
should not be. Lubbock is a much better
place to live, work and play because of the
extraordinary effort of Kay Sanford and many
other people in the community like her. Kay
is a Lubbock native who has devoted her
life to serving the Lubbock community and
Texas Tech University. She and her family
have a long history of service which I am
sure she will continue as long as she possibly
can. She should be recognized, commended
