HONORING SMALL BUSINESSES
Ranada found working in a church office in Snyder to
be challenging, and she can identify with her daughter,
Lacy, who has that same vocation at Plainview Methodist
now. While in Snyder, Ranada sewed for “Two Friends,”
a business in Fluvanna, near Snyder, that made classy
women’s western wear that shipped all over the nation.
In Plainview, Ranada’s sewing business was located across
the street east of Wayland Baptist University for many
years. Even after the opportunity arose to open a new
Jimmy and Ranada (second and third from the
left when they closed on the building) business, sewing is still a mainstay, especially during the
slow seasons. She even made our local Santa, Rodney
Watson, his Santa suit.
Ranada’s main goal for the business is marketplace
ministry. She wants people who come in to feel the peace
and presence of God. One lady was wandering in the store,
after recently losing her sister and daughter. Ranada said,
“Just wander the store and let me know if you need any
help.” The response, “I didn’t come to buy anything, but
when I come in, I feel peace and comfort. I feel the presence
of Jesus here.” Goal accomplished. Ranada was able to
develop a relationship with another lady whose teenage
daughter had been killed in a four-wheeler accident on
their ranch. She bought galvanized angels to remember
her daughter who would have graduated this year. Ranada
shared many stories of how God has ministered through
this “business.”
The Jack family was gifted with a non-profit status project
centered on the Skaggs building. Their son, Jeremy, is
restoring that building through grants and other donations
to repurpose that downtown icon. Plainview is blessed to
have such visionaries.
“Life has not been easy, but through God, we have made
it through.” Ranada and her family and coworkers are
grateful to have a platform of ministry. She concludes,
“Everyone has a story, but without God, the story won’t
have a happy ending.”
