LOCAL LEGENDS
Chip and Glenn Polk today at the
piano at Ragtown Gospel Theater.
partner with the skills we needed. My wife, Robin, had
earned her Interior Design degree at Tech. I convinced
her that she had to design Ragtown Gospel Theater.
Anyone who has been to one of our productions can
attest to the remarkable job she did. People are always
astounded by the experience of stepping through time,
when they enter her representation of a first century
Jerusalem plaza.
We broke ground in 2005, finished building the theater
and opened in 2007 with a new play, Peter the Rock.
Our current show, A Magi*cal Christmas is our 57th
production, completing 18 seasons at Ragtown.
We could never have reached that milestone without
the committed volunteers who have been drawn to
join us, as actors, singers, set-builders, and event staff.
Glenn’s wife, Twila, who is his assistant director, makes
sure we have shuttle drivers, concession workers, and
ushers in place. Robin continues to bring her artistic
eye to the décor of her design, throughout the building
and on the sets. She also handles all the reservations
and ticketing.
My intention was to stay behind the scenes, write the
plays and do the marketing for the theater. Yet again,
the Lord had a different idea. I ended up at the piano,
opening each production, singing with a variety of
wonderfully gifted guest performers over the years.
Savannah Gwinn and Jeff Bailey will be with me for
the Magi*cal Christmas concert before the play. It will
be staged on Saturdays at 3:00, November 2 through
December 14.
We invite you to gather a group and attend together.
It’s guaranteed to be a magi*cal experience! For
