Mrs. Ryan also displayed exceptional kindness to National Merit Scholars
her students through her generosity. In Twelve Years
a Slave, Solomon, the main character, discusses the
sweet taste of molasses. While reading this novel in
English class, Mrs. Ryan brought butter, toast, and
molasses to class so that we could all try molasses,
as many of us had not tried it before. Another time
Mrs. Ryan exemplified her generosity by bringing
the class hot tea, simply because it was cold outside.
These are only a couple of examples of the countless Abigail Barritt Sara Carothers

people feel valued and significant.
I have had the pleasure of being taught by both
Mrs. Ryan and her husband Mr. Ryan at All Saints
Episcopal School. Mr. and Mrs. Ryan share an innate
passion for learning and teaching. The two do not
