they do not meet this standard, they feel as though they
have failed. In reality, they are simply being human. Mrs.
Ryan was always able to recognize our efforts and could see
the potential in us even when we could not see potential
in ourselves. She explained to us that, although we do not
always succeed, our effort is not wasted. She taught us the
importance of striving toward our goals because, even when
we fall short of those goals, we still grow as individuals.
Mrs. Ryan not only taught us valuable lessons through
her words, but also through her actions. Many teachers
expect to be treated with respect from their students, but
Mrs. Ryan truly earned our respect through her leadership.
She always seemed to communicate with us as though we
were her equals because, instead of merely lecturing to us,
she would have conversations with us to make sure we
truly understood the concepts she was teaching us. In my
English class, after grading our essays, she would take the
time to make audio recordings of her analysis for every
student in the class so that we could each hear directly from
her what our strengths were and how we could improve.
Furthermore, in my Research class, Mrs. Ryan would talk
with us individually to make sure we understood our
research projects and to give us the opportunity to discuss
any concerns or questions we had. Mrs. Ryan went above
and beyond to express how much she cared about each of
one of us and our learning experience.
