Photo Tour of
A VIP
BUDDY HOLLY HALL
Just imagine. You’re standing outside the
beautiful, 220,000-square-foot Buddy Holly Hall
of Performing Arts and Sciences in Downtown
Lubbock. You can feel the energy and excitement
as you see your friends inside, ready to watch your
favorite performer. Let’s go inside for backstage
access and a VIP tour!
The main feature of the CH Lobby at the Hall is a breathtaking helical staircase. It was designed
without a center pole and with counterbalances, giving the feeling you are floating up the stairs.
The staircase is made of 110 tons of steel and was fabricated right here in Lubbock by Beck Steel.
Adjacent to the lobby is the Grand Hall, a 6,000
square-foot space designed for small performances,
banquets, weddings, UIL events, and more. The
space can be fully opened or partitioned off into
two separate spaces to accommodate a wide variety
of use by the community.
Outside the Grand Hall is the iconic guitar pick wall, an art installation designed by
Fort Worth artist Brad Oldham. The wall features 9,000 guitar pick shapes in 11 different
sizes, depicting an image of Buddy Holly playing his Fender Stratocaster. The artist
hand-engraved the picks with names of donors to the Buddy Holly Hall. You will see the
names of friends, family, and even Sir Paul McCartney!
The Helen DeVitt Jones theater seats 2,297 patrons and features
state-of-the-art theater lighting and sound equipment. The acoustics
in the theater are NC15, the best acoustics possible for a theater. This
means that a performer can stand on the stage and speak in a normal
speaking voice without a microphone, and the person in the last seat
at the top of the theater can hear the performer speaking!
