their pride and joy. Life was good for the Hewitt family
until they endured a couple of hardships in their early
years. Dale was in a car accident in 1967 which left him
with an amputated arm. That did not stop Dale. He
learned how to adapt to life as an amputee and continued
farming and holding various other jobs. Both Dale and
Gurli attended South Plains College, and Dale continued
his education at Wayland Baptist University. Gurli
received her U.S. citizenship in 1974, and she “Skypes”
regularly with her two sisters in Denmark.
All three of their children graduated from Whitharral
High School. Mike followed in his Dad’s footsteps and
to start a new life, they were at peace knowing that Dale took over the family farm until his death in 2006. Mike
