Attending Lady Raider Basketball games is high on
the list, and so are the meetings of the Hale’s Angels
teachers every few months to tell the same ol’ stories.
Jo Ann and I have been fortunate to have taken several
cruises, and while in the US Army, Jo Ann and I took
a delayed, real honeymoon. I took a 31-day leave, and
we toured several countries all over Europe in a new
Volkswagen purchased at the factory in Germany. I
once even received a check from the Queen of England
on a claim against a 10-ton British truck accident. For
the last nine years, we have loved living at Windsong
at Carillon Living Center in Lubbock. Moving to
Carillon has been a great choice for our retirement.
We also love spending quality time at our Hale Haven
Cabin at Blue Haven, Las Vegas, New Mexico. We
have thoroughly enjoyed watching God’s world turn
while sitting on our large front porch.
to the church. Like most weddings, things do
not always go as planned. Her dad brought
her brother to the church but was mixed up
about who was supposed to bring the bride. Jo
Ann and her mother had to hitch a ride to the
church in one of the local farmer’s trucks. The
delay led to several extra introductory songs
and a very anxious groom. I had a backup plan
in mind with one of her lovely bridesmaids,
but thankfully, I never had to use it. Jo Ann
did show up, and we had a short one-night
honeymoon just 20 miles east of Geronimo
because the military did not recognize the
importance of that special occasion.
We are blessed with two wonderful daughters
and their families: Jana Woelfel, husband
Robert and daughter Line of Houston; and
Linda Ream, husband Jerry, daughter Ashley
and sons, Douglas and David of Kennedale,
Texas. My daughters think so much of their
dad that they chose husbands with my first
and middle name. (That bit of information was
unsolicited from them.)
Highlights of our years together include
serving as educators in the Lubbock Public
Schools for 42 and 35 years, respectively.
