HONORING J.T. & MARGARET
T ALKINGT ON
REMEMBRANCES
of Margaret Talkington
BY PAT MAINES
Margaret Talkington, along with her husband J.T., made Lubbock and the South
Plains a better place for all citizens. Through the Talkington Foundation, the
Lubbock Arts Alliance has benefited a great deal. We could list the many ways--
but that would not capture the essence of this woman of integrity.
We must continue to give thanks for what she meant to our community as a
standard bearer for business, fashion, and personal achievement. She inspired
generations of entrepreneurs and was a philanthropic leader in every way. Her
vision and authenticity came from her heart, and she was generous with both.
Margaret had a small sign on her desk during the store years: “A girl should be
two things, classy and fabulous.” -- Coco Chanel.
Margaret Talkington knew that recognizing beauty in all forms is an individual
meditation on what unites us and makes us human. We are beneficiaries of this
thinking to this day.
