Not only is he one of the most inspiring people I’ve
ever met, he also is one of the best examples of a
grandfather. When I asked him what he wanted
to be for his grandkids, he said he wanted to be a
resource, not just for money but also for knowledge
and wisdom. He wants his grandkids to look to him
if they ever need help with something. He explained
that he thinks that that is the very best thing he
could do. Even if they only take him up on that deal
occasionally and not as often as they should, he is
still always there, whenever they need him.
Overall, John Russell said he has no regrets. The life
he has made for himself is one of joy. He has created
an environment of family, a place for his children
and grandchildren to grow and prosper in. He has
taken care of his wife for the 50 plus years they have
been married. He has seen his children grow into
everything he wished they could be.
I expect that John will not have any problem now,
relaxing at home and getting to work on his MG all
day, and who knows, maybe another car restoration
is in the near future. I only hope I can be there to see
the smile on his face when he completes what he set
out to do, which is always a job well done. Along
with his increasing age, his knowledge and curiosity
about the world grow too. If you ever get the chance
to have a sit-down conversation with John Russell,
take into account every word he says because, I
can guarantee you that, even though it might be
full of sarcastic comments, there is an exponential
amount of knowledge to be gained from just a simple
conversation with him.
