Spencer Swindell attends Coronado High School where he is involved in student council,
NHS, mock trial, varsity tennis, and is a Research/Capstone student. His parents are Rick
and Kara Swindell. He attends Hope Lutheran Church and will attend The University of
Texas at Tyler in the fall of 2026.
me until I earned my confidence through hard work.
When he recognized improvement, it meant something
because I knew it was genuine. He taught me how
to handle adversity because, in basketball, things do
not always go your way. You miss shots, lose games,
or get benched. Instead of letting me feel sorry for
myself, Coach Flick taught me to respond in effort and
improvement. He was always there for me, even at
my lowest. Knowing that a coach believed in me made
me believe in myself, even during moments when I
doubted my abilities. That confidence has carried over
in other aspects of my life; I have learned to lead and
trust my own growth
Looking back, meeting Coach Flick was a turning
point in my life. He taught me that basketball is
more than a game; it is a platform to build character,
strengthen faith, and grow and mature as a person.
Through his coaching, I learned resilience, self-
discipline, and accountability, all grounded in a
faith-centered mindset. I am a stronger person in my
faith and character because of him. His influence has
changed my life, and I will be forever grateful for
all that he has poured into me to help me become a
better man on and off the court.
