As I write the editorial for the Spring edition, I am looking out my office window
at seven inches of snow on the ground. However, Spring is right around the
corner with guarantees of a fresh start and new life. the
The theme of our Spring edition always centers around the promise of new
beginnings as well. Fourteen local high school seniors have contributed to this publisher
issue with essays about teachers, coaches, parents, grandparents, and friends
who have each made a lasting impact on their lives. As they are preparing to
commence a new season in their lives, they have partnered with us to honor those
who have helped equip them for the days ahead.
Their articles always bring to remembrance my own
journey and those who have helped me along the way.
I hope that, as you read these stories, you, too, are
reminded of your own story and those who helped
you write it. Our own community of support has a
powerful role in shaping us as individuals.
We owe a special thanks to ABC Bank for joining us in
this issue every year to provide a small scholarship for
these students and to host a banquet to acknowledge
their contribution. We are so grateful for their
support.
In this keepsake issue, you will also be treated to the
story of Janie Landin Ramirez, who was our keynote
speaker at the banquet. She has a tremendous story
of tenacity, as she worked her way up from serving as
a custodian at Texas Tech to being named TTU’s first
Head of Cultural Diversity.
According to Emma Defleur, “In springtime, love is
carried on the breeze.” The love stories you’ll find in
this issue include some about lifelong relationships,
and some that are brand new. Perhaps they’ll remind
you of a love story of your own.
You’ll want to check out the information about Texas Tech’s Centennial and the centennial of one of Lubbock’s
oldest churches, as well as the history of square and round dancing in Lubbock. Don’t miss all the helpful
resources, the delicious recipes, and the story of a Vietnam veteran in his own words.
Finally, I want once again to remind you to make sure to thank our advertisers. Whether they are familiar
businesses or brand new to our pages, please let them know you saw their ad and that you appreciate them
partnering with us so that we can continue to honor our hometown heroes.
We love our readers and value your feedback, your ideas, your questions, and your concerns. We welcome your
comments as we strive to make Senior Link more helpful and enjoyable for you. Please reach out and let me
know what you think.
