Welcome to Spring 2021. I think we can all agree that we are glad 2020 has come
and gone. This time last year, we were hosting our annual cover photo shoot and
banquet for the high school Seniors and the Seniors they honored. The “Link” the
in Senior Link is fulfilled when multiple generations come together in order to
publisher
recognize the value of passing on the stories of our elders to future generations.
So much has happened since that event last year. Lives have been lost. Businesses
have closed. And many in our community have suffered great loss because of
COVID and all of the challenges that came with it.
My own family all had COVID and quarantined
together. Thankfully, our cases were mild, but
an intangible fear of what might happen next
lingers like an annoying houseguest. The loss of
socialization and relationship grieves me.
Recently, I read a report about the rise of mental
health concerns in our youth across the US. It is
evident that we still need to lean on the strength
and resilience of our family and friends but,
perhaps, in different ways. We must come up
with creative new ideas to connect the multiple
generations, especially in our families. It is more
important than ever that the stories be told and
the youth hear them. Senior Link is grateful for the
opportunity to facilitate that effort and grateful
for the high school seniors who took precious time
to visit with someone who has influenced them
and then write an essay to honor them.
Our world will never be the same. My grandmother
lived from 1906-2000, and the stories she told
remind me of how drastically our world has
changed in a short time. I believe it is even more important than ever that we “glean from our grandparents”
and others who have more birthdays behind them than in front of them. Getting together has become more
complicated and somehow more precious. We still need each other, so we must find a way to make it happen.
In this edition, you’ll also find several great resource articles, stories about local legend Bobby Moegle, Tom’s
Tree Place, the new VA Super Clinic, Lubbock Impact, Unpack Ministries and much more.
We hope you enjoy our annual Senior2Senior issue, and please make sure to reach out and thank our sponsors.
Currently, many of the businesses who support this magazine are doing so sacrificially. I am thankful for them,
and I know they would appreciate knowing that our readers are as well.

The Mission of Senior Link
Our mission is to tell the stories of local seniors, not only to honor them,
but also to inspire and challenge younger generations. We endeavor to link
seniors with the resources they need to ensure quality of life. We believe in
the strength of the chain, in linking with one another, and in linking all of
us to information which can enhance our lives. We recognize the value of
every season of life and the uniqueness of every story. Senior Link’s mission
rests in the power of connection.
