My oldest daughter will be in 9th grade next year, and rumor has it that, once your
child gets to high school, time just flies by. Soon enough, I will be one of those
parents preparing to send their beloved child off on a new adventure, trusting the
that we as parents have imparted to them the many things they will need to know.
Regardless of how fast the time goes, I pray that I am using it wisely to teach my publisher
kids the importance of honor and the priority of relationships.
This is the fourth annual edition of “Senior
to Senior”, and 18 of the articles are written
by seniors from 18 area high schools. We
asked each of these young authors to
write about a senior citizen who has made
an impact on their lives. Judging by their
words, it is obvious that these high school
seniors have embraced the wisdom of their
“seniors.” The life experiences of an older
generation offer a circumspection that is
potentially invaluable to young people
preparing to graduate. And it appears
these members of a younger generation
are willing, not only to benefit from that
wisdom, but also to express gratitude to
the ones who have spoken into their lives.
Sometimes, members of our senior
population feel alone and unappreciated.
It is the goal of this edition of Senior Link
to let our readers know that, despite complicated modern communication technology, you are being heard. The
lessons you share are being retained, and you are valued in the lives of those around you. We hope that message
is conveyed in the stories that follow!
I also want to express my gratitude to AimBank. Each year, they generously partner with us for this important
edition. Together, AimBank and Senior Link reach out to another organization in the area that shares our love
for both “senior” populations. We are so pleased this year to have United Supermarkets partner with us to give
the young authors a small scholarship and recognize them at a special banquet. AimBank and United- you are
both appreciated, not only for your help with this edition, but also for all that you do in our community.
Seniors in high school, as you prepare to graduate, I’d like to share this bit of wisdom myself: “Always make the
time to sit with someone older and listen. Their experiences and their insight will surely be useful in the days
ahead of you.” And to our senior citizens: “Be willing to share your stories, your thoughts, and your feelings.
You can help someone younger with the perspective you’ve gained from your journey.” Relationships and
806-281-6106 mutual respect are important to all of us, and how powerfully it is expressed “Senior to Senior”! Erin Agee
