NEIGHBOR

n 2016, I was visiting with my delightful
new neighbor, Marita. She mentioned
Iher mother had written many books
and had been a public speaker. She invited
me to come to her house and told me that
she had something she wanted to give
me. We walked into a room with shelves
full of books. My eyes lit up as I saw the
book Silver Boxes by Florence Littauer! I
excitedly asked, “Oh my gosh, your mother
is Florence Littauer?” I shared with Marita
that, in the late 80’s, I heard Florence speak
at Bacon Heights Baptist Church. I was
deeply inspired by her humor and wisdom
as she shared the joy of giving encouraging
words to others as if they were silver boxes
- the title of her book. This beautiful visual
picture has stayed with me as a reminder of
the power of our words to bless others.
