Bombs: A Navy Veteran’s Story wwii
to Proctor, Texas and owned a liquor store for 14
years. “I was also stripping cotton in south Texas,
as well as Taylor, Malone, Tahoka, and Lubbock. I
stripped cotton for 32 years and retired at the age of
86.” Mr. Pierce’s wife died in 2003, and he moved
to Lubbock in 2010. “I am very fortunate to have a
family and good neighbors who care about me. Oh,
and did I mention – I still have 20/20 vision, all but
one of my teeth, excellent hearing; I’m still walking,
dancing, and telling jokes...and I believe I still have
my MIND!”
What memories Mr. Pierce has of five invasions, the
scenes in Nagasaki, the treaty to end the war with
Japan – and more than a year on the water! The
members of the Greatest Generation continue to
amaze us with stories of heroism and sacrifice. We
are so grateful, Mr. Pierce!
