HONORING SENIORS
Lucky us!
We Have Dick Tolley
“Lucky Me, I Live in Lubbock” was written and
composed by Richard Tolley, former Assistant Texas
Tech Band Director, to play in the Westwinds Brass Band
in honor of their founder, Professor Dean Killion. The
idea for the song is based on the original slogan used by
our Chamber of Commerce many years ago. Dick came
to Lubbock to serve on Texas Tech’s Music faculty in
1959 which coincided with the beginning of the “Goin’
Band from Raiderland.” In the 60’s, he wrote the music
for “Texas Tech Fanfare” and “Ride, Raider, Ride” also
known as “The Horse Song” to accompany the Masked
Rider as he/she circled the stadium. Dick loves Lubbock
and is currently a resident of Raider Ranch. To this day
Dick is a true Texas Tech Raider fan.
Lucky Me, I Live in Lubbock
by Dick Tolley
Lucky me, I live in Lubbock
Where the sun shines every day
And the breeze of the Caprock
Blows all your cares away.
In the evening, when the sunsets
Give a glorious delight,
I’m so glad I live in Lubbock
Where life is all so right!
Lucky me! Lucky Me! Lucky me! Lucky Me!
Lucky me! Lucky Me! Lucky me! Lucky Me!
