to show them who God is. My brother taught me that
lesson with his simple actions.
Caleb was such a good kid in high school that all the
teachers knew our last name, so when I reached high
school, the expectations on me were always higher. I
wanted to follow in those footsteps. Just last year, Caleb
graduated from Abilene Christian University and is
going to UNT medical school in Fort Worth so that he
can become a surgeon. I believe God is going to put him
to work helping others heal and be healthy. He’s still Lubbock’s NEW home
paving the way and motivating me to always do my very
best. for classical radio
I know it might seem insignificant, but I also really
respect my brother’s ability to make light of things and
exhibit a great sense of humor. He doesn’t let things
bother him; just laughs stuff off and does his own thing,
no matter what. Caleb really doesn’t care what people
think and doesn’t mind being different or unique. He is
really funny, and I think it’s mostly because he doesn’t
mind making fun of himself or take things too seriously.
He also never cussed, and that made him stand out
when he was with other guys, especially in athletics. He
didn’t look down on others or get mad; he just chose to
use his words to build others up instead of saying all the
bad words that other kids think are cool. He’s always
had his own way of doing things, and he didn’t really
mind if anyone else liked it or not. It’s one of Caleb’s best
traits, and it really showed me it’s okay to not be like
everyone else. Just be yourself and do what you believe
is right. You really only have an audience of One.
Finally, my big brother was an example for me on how
to act Godly in a world that values all the wrong things.
It can be easy to just follow along, but Caleb showed me
that, as Christians, we have to be intentionally different.
God calls us to be different. Don’t get me wrong, Caleb
wasn’t perfect, and he would punch me and fight like
boys do, but he was always careful to make sure I was
okay and that I knew how much he loved me. I’ve
watched him put God first all the years of his life, and
it motivates me to do the same. My and Caleb’s favorite
verse is Romans 12:2, and we try to live by it every day.
Romans 12:2 says, “Do not conform to the pattern of this
world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then download our

As you can see, I’ve been blessed to have a great role
model in my big brother Caleb. He is the kind of guy
that I want to be. He’s smart, funny, and loves the Lord
with all his heart. I hope to influence others to live this
way just like my brother showed me.
