The Fall edition is always one of my favorites. We all have stories, but a veteran's
story is especially impactful. Not only does it tell an individual’s story, but it is a
glimpse into the much bigger picture of our nation’s history. It is keepsake-worthy the
because it reveals more than our history books tell. When shared with younger
generations, the stories add a local perspective and meaningful reality to what they
learn in school. publisher
THIS fall edition is special for another reason.
We are celebrating the 10th anniversary of when I became the
owner and publisher of Senior Link. During that time, I have
met amazing people, heard powerful stories, built lifelong
relationships, and gleaned great wisdom to pass on to my
children.
In honor of our decade-long history, we took our cover photo
where we took our first veteran issue cover photo--at the
Lubbock Area Veterans War Memorial. In addition to the new
veterans we are privileged to honor, we are including reprints
of ten veteran stories, one from each of our previous Fall
issues. These articles in Senior Link's "history" are meaningful
to me and symbolic of our mission to link not only generations
of families but also generations of the military, both active
duty and veterans. The story of defending and protecting this
country is an unbroken one that began long before we came
on the scene.
While we were creating our annual Fall edition, we also put
together an event to honor the veterans featured in the issue.
This year’s Tribute Breakfast was extra special because we
partnered with the Hub City Freedom Quilters to present each
veteran with a Quilt of Valor. Everyone in the room felt the
emotion as we watched the veterans gratefully receive their Quilts of Valor. It was equally impactful to see the joy on
the faces of the women as each veteran received their beautiful handmade works of art.
Others who deserve special thanks are ABC Bank, Texas Tech University Military and Veteran Network, Beyond Faith
Hospice, Hospice of Lubbock, and Interim Hospice. An event like this is no easy undertaking, and I am fortunate to
have organizations who have a heart for veterans come alongside to appreciate, encourage, and honor them. Please
thank them for all they do for our veterans and for being so supportive of the magazine as well.
Ten years! The journey has been challenging, but it has had great rewards. Wonderful stories continue to present
themselves, making the magazine the unique platform it has become. We have always been so appreciative of our
readers and advertisers for the past decade and are encouraged and eager to see what the next ten years have in
store.
