I have told my girls that, when the pandemic is over, they should put their masks
in their keepsake boxes to remind them of stories they will want to tell their
own kids. Even with some of the restrictions loosening (school is open, and even the
limited nursing home visits are being allowed), the struggle is still real. Distancing,
masks and isolation affect all of us, from the littlest children to our most seasoned publisher
seniors.
In addition, small businesses on the South Plains have faced difficulties they have
never seen before. Senior Link itself is a small business, and we have experienced
many of those challenges ourselves.
We want to share some of the stories
behind the businesses to inspire you and
encourage you that Lubbock and our
neighbors are populated with survivors.
Many of the ones featured in this edition,
like Holland Gardens, have been an
integral part of the Lubbock “landscape”
for decades. We hope the history of
places like Grand Hearing, WD Wilkins,
Paul’s Parts, Holly Hop, Cactus Theater, the
Outdoorsman and Shallowater’s 4 Corners
Mart will remind you to support as many
as you can by shopping local.
Moreover, as 2020 finally winds down, we
find that the holidays arrive invariably,
whether we are prepared or not. Hopefully,
this issue of Senior Link will give you new
ideas to embrace the season. Look for
hints, recipes, and gift ideas in our new
resource section.
We have done some brainstorming and
reflection regarding how we can better
serve you, our readers. We will always
offer a platform to honor seniors in our
community. Additionally, we are consolidating our resource articles into one section, so you can easily find
information you need. Not only will our mission be to “link” generations, but going forward, we want to be
your “link” to the best Lubbock lowdown on subjects like physical health, financial well-being, volunteering,
decorating, shopping, and hobbies. We will feature a regular crossword, recipe section, “book nook” and much
more. As we implement these changes, we welcome your thoughts, opinions, ideas and suggestions.

The Mission of Senior Link
Our mission is to tell the stories of local seniors, not only to honor them,
but also to inspire and challenge younger generations. We endeavor to link
seniors with the resources they need to ensure quality of life. We believe in
the strength of the chain, in linking with one another, and in linking all of
us to information which can enhance our lives. We recognize the value of
every season of life and the uniqueness of every story. Senior Link’s mission
rests in the power of connection.
