and his wife had just participated in at a local church. It
was a concert benefitting Women’s Protective Services.
As it turns out, my neighbors have a very interesting
story.
Gary and Gayla Campbell both have successful careers,
and additionally have begun G & G Ministries for
people who have been wounded by “life.” Dr. Gayla
Campbell provides counseling for people in emotional
pain in her private practice. She works regularly with
the special-needs population. Her warmth, compassion
and humor are surely welcome to her clients. The songs
and books she authored have benefitted more people
than she knows. Gary retired from music ministry
but has simply widened his audience. He has been
instrumental in developing and coordinating concerts
with other music ministers in the community. The
Campbells often work together, facilitating GriefShare
groups – a ministry for those who’ve lost loved ones.
They also minister to people who have experienced
“church hurt”. The Campbells use their gifts of song
writing, singing and counseling to creatively share the
love of Christ.
When I called Gayla to get her input, she was driving
a young woman from Women’s Protective Services
to a weekend retreat called Walk to Emmaus. The
Campbells are quietly making a difference in our
community, one heart at a time. They are modern
day Good Samaritans, caring for their “neighbors”.
Their dream is to build a retreat center to host anyone
with need of emotional healing, as well as provide a
“getaway” for the West Texas special needs community.
But for all that to happen, their house will have to sell.
I’ll keep praying until it does.
