Perfect Storm Summer Camp
Hands-On Learning about Energy Technology,
Disaster Response and the Microgrid
The Perfect Storm Summer Camp is designed to immerse mature, middle school and high school
students, who are interested in applied science, to the multiple dimensions of responding and
recovering from disasters. The camp is one week long and is fully experiential.
Kids will learn how microgrids work and how they are used in emergencies. They will confront
the basics of disaster medicine and get to experience a realistic urban search and rescue exercise,
to include team response and the use of drones, also being introduced to the basics of flight and
construction and/or repair of drones.
The kids will be taught by engineers, engineering students, medical students, nursing students,
medical doctors and biomedical scientists. The program is designed for maximal learning and
fun and is part of the Texas Tech University Global Laboratory for Energy Asset Management
and Manufacturing (GLEAMM) program.
