A Grandmother's Gift

Dear Gerber Children, Ethel Averitt is a resident of Raider Ranch. She is currently

You are growing up in the small town of Nazareth where handcrafting a quilt for her grandson who is a senior in high school.
basketball is “king”. I have always believed that many life The quilt is pieced together from about 40 different uniforms he

       kind of competition.
First, let’s look at practices. You work out in that gym
hours and hours all year. This is hard work. You set goals.
You learn team work, you form relationships with your
teammates, you improve your basketball skills, you develop
positive attitudes that can help the team.
These same “rules” apply to life after high school. You
set goals, you work hard. Just like basketball, if that plan
doesn’t work for you, try another one. It is ok to change
your mind. It is your life!
During a basketball game, you give it your best; teamwork
is so important. This is true in any job you take. Work hard
to please your boss, just like you try to please your coach
       now.
Sometimes you get a “bad call” from the referee. You
must “suck” it up and go on to play the game with a positive
attitude: “I can, I can.” Remember how to do that when
something unfair happens in your life.
All of us want to be “the Star” of the game, but that is not
always possible. You are important! Keep telling yourself,
“I am made in God’s image. I am a Child of God.” Dare
to ask God for your greatest dream. Rough times usually
makes us stronger and more determined to succeed.
In high school, you didn’t get to choose your “head
coach”. He was the one who guided your team and made
decisions for a successful season. But in real life you get to
choose your leader, your “Head Coach”.
I am praying that you will choose God to be your “Head
Coach.” The most important thing in life is your relationship
to God. Only through Him will you find love, peace and joy.
I pray that you will continue to grow closer and closer to my
“Head Coach” and receive all the blessings He has for you.

      Love You,
      "Gran Gran" Ethel Averitt
